Life on Mars?

This week's addition to the pop music repertoire features David Bowie's 1971 track “Life on Mars?” from the album Hunky Dory. The song’s slightly bizarre origins are best explained by the man himself:

Sigur Ros - Staralfur

The music of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós lends itself frequently to adaptation for string quartet. This latest one is from their second album - Ágætis byrjun - released in 1999. The track was also featured in the 2005 film “The Girl in the Café” starring Kelly MacDonald and Bill Nighy.
